Benefits of Renting a Digital Piano

People decide to rent digital pianos for a variety of reasons. Often, a new student or parent of a new student will be uncertain about the long term prospect of continued lessons, which can lead to the purchase of an inexpensive and inadequate digital piano. While the intentions are good not overspend on a new piano that costs thousands of dollars only to have to turn around and sell it for a substantial loss a few months later, the results of such a purchase can be regrettable.
Playing on a substandard digital piano can, in itself, lead to a loss of interest because of the lack of proper touch or sound quality that promotes a continued interested in learning to play the piano. There are many people selling their used digital pianos that have worn pads, improperly weighted keys, faulty electronics, and a host of other issues that you may not realize until a more experienced player brings them to your attention.
Renting a digital piano helps you reduce these risks by ensuring you have a fully functioning, high quality instrument at an affordable monthly investment. Usually, lessons alone cost twice as much or more than the rental itself. If you, or your son or daughter lose interest, simply call or email us to pick up the piano; on the other hand, if there is a sustained interest, you can upgrade from your current model or purchase a digital piano and receive credit for the first six months of rental payments. Our rental program is designed to take the uncertainty out of your piano search and create a win-win situation for you.
Additionally, many teachers and music schools, and universities teach their students using a digital piano and have digital pianos in their piano labs. The idea is that you can walk from a digital piano to an acoustic grand piano or upright piano and not lose any of the skill acquired while practicing on a digital piano.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why would I rent a digital piano?
There are a number of reasons people rent....to make sure that their child is committed before spending thousands on a piano, because they are a student and may only need something for the school year, are living in an apartment and need to keep the noise level down and need something they can use headphones with, or simply anyone on a budget that wants to have access to a top quality piano at an affordable price.
Q: Which model is best for a beginner?
There are so many beginner models out there to choose from that it can be quite daunting to just pick one. We have tried many out over the years, and we prefer the Casio Privia series, or Yamaha DGX series. You will find that many music lessons studios and universities use these models for their students as well.
Q: Are these instruments in good condition?
Yes, each one that you see on the rental page is the actual unit that you will receive. We have them maintained at a DC area keyboard repair shop and make sure that everything is in working order before sending them out. If you are not satisfied for any reason, we will gladly change out the instrument for you at no charge.
Q: Do you have a place where I can try these out?
Yes, our digital piano store is in Gaithersburg, MD, and you are welcome to come out and try them out. Please contact us first to set up a time and make sure that the piano that you want to try is in the piano store and not in our warehouse. The majority of our customers choose from the digital pianos that we have online and have them delivered without coming to try them, so whatever is best for you.
Q: How much of my rental fee can I apply toward purchase?
You can apply 100%, up to six months, of your monthly rental fee, excluding tax, toward the purchase of the rental instrument or apply it to another digital piano that we have in stock. We typically do not sell our beginner instruments like the Privia or DGX series, so you would need to apply that credit toward another model. After six months, you do not continue to gain credit toward purchase, though you do not lose the accumulated credit that you have already earned if you keep the instrument longer.
